Executive Summary

Developed the 2026 Marketplace Business Plan to identify and prioritize opportunities across technology, capital investment, pricing, guest experience, and operational efficiency. I independently developed the analysis, recommendations, strategic priorities, and executive presentation. Multiple recommendations subsequently advanced into testing, capital planning, contract review, pricing changes, or implementation.

Business Context

Marketplace operates as a high-volume, multi-concept Food & Beverage operation within Jamul Casino, supporting burgers, coffee, taqueria, pizzeria, retail, and guest service in a 24/7 environment. Beyond daily execution, the operation required a forward-looking strategy addressing technology limitations, infrastructure needs, pricing opportunities, service flow, and future growth. The 2026 business planning process provided an opportunity to consolidate these needs into a structured strategy for executive review and organizational action.

The Challenge

Many opportunities affecting Marketplace performance extended beyond the authority or resources of a single operating department. Technology improvements required IT support, remodel initiatives required capital investment, mobile ordering required broader organizational and legal involvement, and pricing decisions required financial validation. The challenge was to convert frontline operational knowledge into credible business recommendations that leadership could evaluate, prioritize, and advance.

Operating Environment

24/7 multi-concept casino Food & Beverage operation supporting 2,500+ daily transactions, 80+ direct team members, nine frontline leaders, and coordination across Culinary, IT, Finance, Facilities, Procurement, Marketing, and executive leadership.

My Responsibility

Owned development of the Marketplace Business Plan from initial analysis through executive presentation. I independently created the presentation, identified operational opportunities, developed recommendations, organized strategic priorities, and built the supporting business rationale. Presented the completed plan to executive leadership alongside culinary leadership and remained involved as selected recommendations moved into evaluation, approval, testing, and execution.

Analysis

Evaluated operational performance, financial results, technology limitations, guest experience, service flow, equipment needs, and existing processes to identify opportunities for improvement. Used operating experience, available performance data, financial analysis, and observed service constraints to determine where existing systems or practices were limiting efficiency, profitability, or future growth. Opportunities were evaluated not only for immediate operational benefit, but also for scalability, financial impact, guest experience, and the level of organizational investment required.

Strategy

Built a portfolio of actionable recommendations spanning mobile ordering, KDS implementation, patron-facing technology, POS hardware modernization, Coffee Shop capital improvements, and pricing strategy. Prioritized initiatives based on operational need, expected business impact, implementation requirements, and alignment with the future direction of Marketplace.

Execution

Built the complete executive presentation and presented the Marketplace strategy to senior leadership alongside culinary leadership. Defined the operating problem behind each major recommendation, proposed a path forward, and connected initiatives to business outcomes including efficiency, profitability, guest experience, and future capacity. Following the presentation, supported continued evaluation as recommendations moved into IT testing, legal and contract review, CAPEX planning, pricing decisions, remodel development, and implementation.

Cross-Functional Coordination

Worked with executive leadership, Culinary, IT, Finance, Facilities, Procurement, Marketing, and other stakeholders as recommendations progressed beyond the original business plan. Provided operational context and frontline requirements while specialized departments evaluated technical feasibility, financial requirements, contracts, capital investment, and implementation.

Measurable Results

Six major recommendations advanced beyond the original planning stage: • Mobile ordering progressed into contract and legal review. • KDS licensing was approved and incorporated into Coffee Shop remodel CAPEX. • Patron Viewer technology was piloted within Marketplace and advanced into future property-wide capital planning. • POS computer upgrades were implemented across the casino, significantly improving system performance and load times. • Coffee Shop remodel planning advanced toward execution. • À la carte financial analysis supported pricing adjustments on items operating at unfavorable margins.

Lessons & Takeaway

Effective operational leadership requires looking beyond current-day execution and identifying what the business will need next. This project demonstrated the value of combining frontline operating knowledge, financial analysis, technology awareness, and structured planning to influence decisions beyond my immediate span of control. It also reinforced that operational ideas gain traction when they are translated into clear business problems, practical solutions, and actionable recommendations that executive and cross-functional teams can evaluate.
